What To Look For In Classic And Exotic Car Storage In Livonia — And What We Actually Offer

by | Sep 3, 2026 | Guides

If you’re looking at winter storage for a car you care about, you’ll find plenty of facilities that sound the same. Climate controlled. Secure. Fully insured. Those words are easy to write.

What’s harder to find is a place willing to tell you exactly what’s included, what isn’t, and what it costs — before you call.

So here’s ours, plainly.

First, the Questions Worth Asking Anyone

Before you look at us, these are worth asking any storage facility in the area. If a place won’t answer them directly, that tells you something.

Can I See the Space?

Not photos — the actual building. Anyone confident in their storage will show you where your car will sit. Reluctance is informative.

How Do I Get My Car Back?

This is the question most people forget to ask, and the one that causes the most frustration in February. Some facilities need days of notice. Some are only open weekdays. Find out before you hand over the keys.

What Happens If I Want It Out Mid-Winter?

Some places allow it, some don’t, some charge for it. There’s no wrong answer — but you should know which it is.

Is the Price All-In?

Ask what’s included and what’s extra. Battery tending, a wash before pickup, access outside business hours — these vary a lot.

Who’s Actually There?

A phone number that reaches someone who knows your car matters more than most people expect.

What We Offer, and What It Costs

We publish our prices. Here they are.

Winter Storage — $2,000

Up to six months, roughly October 15 through April 15. A $250 deposit reserves the space; the balance is due October 1.

Includes a complimentary battery tender, plus a handwash and vacuum at both drop-off and pickup — so the car goes in clean and comes out clean.

No in-and-out privileges on this package. If you want the car out before April 1, it’s $199 per trip, which includes a handwash and vacuum on return.

The right package if the car is going away for the season and staying away.

Year Round Storage — $350 a Month

Month to month, autopay. For a car you use occasionally through the year rather than one that hibernates.

Includes a complimentary battery tender and access to your vehicle year-round within 24 hours’ notice. Washing and detailing are available separately, and storage customers get discounted pricing on detailing for all their vehicles, not just the stored one.

Full Service Storage — $400 a Month

Same month-to-month arrangement, more access and more service.

Same-day access from April 15 through October 15, and access within 24 hours from October 16 through April 14. In-and-out privileges included, with up to a weekly handwash and vacuum, so the car is ready when you want it. Battery tender included, and the same discounted detailing across all your vehicles.

This is the package for a car you actually drive — one that comes out on good weekends and goes back when the weather turns.

Getting Your Car In and Out

Our lobby hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Those aren’t the only hours you can reach your car. We’ll arrange drop-off and pickup around your schedule, and there’s a secure key box at the front door with combination locks inside — so you can drop a car off or collect one without anyone needing to be here.

If you finish work at six and want your car Saturday morning, that works. It isn’t an exception we make grudgingly. It’s how the place is set up.

The Building

Vehicle storage space at Specialized Automotive in Livonia

We’re on Schoolcraft Road in Livonia, minutes from M-14 and I-275 — straightforward to reach from Plymouth, Northville, Canton, Farmington Hills and most of western Metro Detroit.

The storage space sits in a 1950s masonry building, and that’s an advantage rather than a quirk. Thick walls and a slab floor give it real security and thermal mass, so it stays naturally cool through summer instead of fighting the heat.

Through winter we heat the space. That matters more than most owners expect, and it isn’t really about the paint, it’s about the rubber. Tires, seals, bushings and weatherstripping all age faster sitting through a Michigan January in an unheated building. Heat is the difference between a car that’s ready in April and one that needs attention first.

The building is monitored by a professional alarm company with camera coverage. The facility is insured.

We keep the floor genuinely clean, which isn’t cosmetic. A clean floor means you notice a fluid leak in November rather than April, and it means your paint isn’t collecting dust for five months.

Getting Your Car Ready for Storage

Whether you store with us or anywhere else, a few things are worth doing before a car sits for months:

  • Wash it first. Road salt, bird droppings and bug residue do more damage over five stationary months than over five driving months. Our service includes a wash at drop-off for exactly this reason.
  • Fill the tank and add stabilizer. A full tank leaves less room for condensation, and stabilizer keeps modern fuel from separating.
  • Fresh oil if it’s due. Used oil is acidic. Leaving it in an engine all winter isn’t ideal.
  • Check tire pressures. Slightly above the normal figure helps reduce flat-spotting.
  • Don’t leave anything organic inside. Food wrappers, air fresheners, a forgotten coffee cup can all lead to stains and odors when you pick up your car.
  • Talk to your insurer. Some policies change when a vehicle is off the road for a season. Worth a five-minute call.

One Thing That Makes Us Different

We’re not only a storage facility. We’re a detailing shop that also stores cars.

The same people looking after your car through winter are the ones correcting paint, applying ceramic coatings and doing full details every day. So when your car comes out in April and needs attention, it doesn’t have to go anywhere else — and storage customers get discounted pricing on that work.

It also means someone who knows what a well-kept car looks like walks past yours regularly.

What We Don’t Do

Being straight about this is more useful than a longer list of features.

We’re a working shop, not a concierge service. No valet delivery. We have a comfortable lobby, visiting office, and waiting area, but we aren’t a car social club.

What we offer is a clean, secure, heated building, honest pricing, and an owner who answers his own phone.

Space Is Limited

We have roughly fifty spaces, and winter fills up. If you’re considering it for this season, it’s worth calling sooner rather than in November.

Call Nate at 248-986-6230, or book online. He’ll tell you straight whether we’re the right fit.
